Hello and welcome to Farmers Wife homestead.

My name is Stacey and I’m married to Karl, between us we have 9 children ranging from adults down to teens. We’re the real-life Brady Bunch, just without the-live in maid! We also have 8 amazing grandchildren, giving us a crazy, beautiful and busy life.

More about Farmers Wife Homestead

Living on a farm in the stunning North Island of New Zealand, we farm beef and sheep. Luckily enough we can hunt on our property. It provides us with an excellent free source of protein which is great for the budget. We also have a pet pig named Little Miss Piggie, 3 cats, 6 working dogs, two horses, and 30-something chickens. (Exclaimer) I used chicken math so the number is probably closer to 50!

We try to lead a self-sufficient life as much as possible by preserving, growing, and buying in bulk to help the budget stretch further. I also love to meal plan and find this a great way to save money. On this website, I have included our free Monthly Menu Planner and I will show you how we use it in an upcoming post. So keep an eye out for that. You can get your free planner here

We have a large vegetable garden and some fruit trees, we will be expanding on both of those in the near future. Getting to make our own bacon, and sausages and processing all our own meat helps us save on processing fees. Also hubby is hoping to add hives in the not-so-distant future, which is pretty exciting.

We like to have a well-stocked pantry as we live roughly 50 minutes away from the closest big town. I buy mostly in bulk at our local Gilmour’s and try to stay away from the supermarket as much as possible.

I have always had a love of cooking and have gravitated towards cooking from scratch. This has allowed me to learn a lot of tips and skills over the past 30 years so I hope to share many with you! In the past, I have had a couple of Cafes and catering businesses which has also helped me to learn more and up-skill.

Currently, I am a full-time ambulance officer and it is a job that I love dearly. Helping people in their time of need is a privilege and a humbling experience.
