Prep Time:10 minutes
Cook Time:20 minutes
Total Time:30 minutes

Ingredients

Dumplings

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 4 Tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 75 g butter softened (DF marg should work as well)
  • ¾ cup milk (use DF milk if needed)
  • 2 Tbsp golden syrup

Sauce

  • 75 g butter (DF marg again could be used)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • cup golden syrup

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Rub the softened butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • In a small jug, mix together the milk and golden syrup. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into 8 evenly sized dumplings and set aside while you prepare the sauce.
  • In a large saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, water, and golden syrup. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  • Carefully place the dumplings into the simmering sauce. Cover with a lid and cook for about 8 minutes.
  • Remove the lid, gently turn the dumplings over, and continue cooking uncovered for another 10 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through and the sauce has thickened into a glossy syrup.
  • Serve warm with cream, custard, or ice cream if desired.
