Total Time:5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp plain flour
  • 4 Tbsp chicken stock powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp dried thyme
  • ¼ tsp dried sage

Instructions

How to make the gravy mix

  • Add all ingredients to a bowl and whisk together until well combined. Transfer the mixture into an airtight jar or container. Store in a cool, dry pantry for several months. I make up a triple batch, so I have more stocked up in my pantry.

How to make the gravy

  • Add 1 cup of cold water to a saucepan.
  • Add 2–3 tablespoons of the dry gravy mix (use 2 Tbsp for a thinner gravy, 3 Tbsp for thicker gravy).
  • Whisk until smooth.
  • Heat over medium–high, whisking consistently, until thickened and glossy.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Notes

Stacey's Kitchen Tips
  • Whisk from cold: Always start with cold water — it prevents lumps.
  • Flavour boost: Add a splash of cream or a tiny knob of butter just before serving for richness.
  • Make it ahead: Keep a double batch in your pantry for winter meals.
  • Use as seasoning: Sprinkle a teaspoon into casseroles or slow cooker meals for extra chicken flavour.
Variations
  • Herby Gravy Mix: Add dried parsley or rosemary.
  • Garlic Lovers Mix: Increase garlic powder to 2 tsp.
  • Golden Roast Style: Add a pinch of turmeric for colour.
  • Low-Salt Version: Halve the stock powder and increase the flour slightly.
