Remove the seasoning packet from the jar and set aside.
Heat the butter or oil in a large frying pan or saucepan over medium heat.
Add the rice and orzo and cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently, until lightly toasted.
Carefully pour in the hot water. The mixture may splatter slightly.
Stir in the seasoning packet and bring to a gentle simmer.
Cover and cook over medium-low heat for about 7-10 minutes.
Check the liquid level and add a little extra water if needed.
Continue cooking until the rice is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed. Make sure the vegetables are cooked through. You can hydrate the veggies in a little warm water before cooking if you like.
Remove the lid and stir through any optional extras such as cooked chicken, beef mince, spinach, parmesan cheese, or additional vegetables.
Serve immediately.
