What makes these easy overnight oats with caramelized apples so special?

These overnight oats have warm, sweet, caramelized apples that adorn the top of the oats. The combination of butter and brown sugar, along with the earthy tones of cinnamon make this a sure-to-be-loved combination!

Budget-friendly

Oats are super inexpensive even in these tough times, so this recipe is great not only on the wallet but is also very filling. You can heat the oats up in the morning or enjoy them cold. Both ways are just as delicious.

One bag of oats will give you several servings. Using airtight containers/jars you can measure out the dry ingredients ahead of time, then just pop them into the pantry for quick and easy preparation. You can also add any dried fruit or any spices you wish to use.

You can also buy your oats in bulk which means even bigger savings. Store in either food-grade buckets with lids or vacuum pack them into kg size bags and store in a cool dry area of your house.

How to make your easy overnight oats with caramelized apples

The first step is to clean the jars or containers you are using. Then gather all the oat ingredients and place them into the jars. Mix together with a spoon to combine and place the lids on top. Pop into the fridge to set overnight.

The next morning, take the jars out and give them another stir. If you would like hot oats just pop the jar into the microwave for roughly 30 seconds. Add some more milk if they are too thick after heating.

Top your oats with any type of yoghurt you would like. I make my own up so that I can make it nice and thick without any added sugar. It also makes it far cheaper. My favourite flavour currently is coconut Greek yoghurt.

Now core and chop up an apple, leaving the skins on for added fiber! Set aside in a small frying pan while you get the butter and brown sugar together. Heat on medium heat until the apples are warmed through. Add the butter and sugar and continue to mix until it has dissolved and turned into a sauce. I recommend doubling the butter and sugar to make extra of the sauce as it is seriously moreish!

Add the warmed apple mixture to your jars, making sure to pour some of the lovely sauce over as well. Grab a spoon and enjoy!

Dairy-free version

To make this dairy-free simply swap out the milk for your desired milk alternative. I quite like coconut milk in mine as I am not a fan of regular milk. You can also do the swap for the yogurt and butter to make it dairy-free too.

Other toppings you could use

Although these overnight oats with caramelized apples are delicious just the way they are. You can also add any other type of topping you wish, such as

  • Berries
  • Dried fruit
  • Fresh fruit
  • Tinned fruit
  • Compote

I hope you give these easy overnight oats a try! They are super filling and delicious to add to your breakfast lineup. HERE is a link to my YouTube channel where I will be sharing how to make these very soon.

Cook apples on medium heat until thoroughly hot and saucy.
Place it on top of the yoghurt. Spoon any sauce that is with the apples. If you want more sauce to go over the yoghurt, feel free to double the butter and sugar ratio.

Notes

You can top your oats with so many flavour combinations and I plan on showing you some more of our family favourites soon.
If you would like a heartier serving you can double all the ingredients.
Also, if you like you can microwave the jar with just the oats to heat it through before adding the yoghurt and toppings.
