Cheesy Loaded Chips/Wedges | Easy Air Fryer Snack Everyone Loves

If you want the quickest, tastiest, and most budget-friendly snack or side, try this Loaded chips recipe. It’s exactly what you need for your family. Using simple pantry and fridge staples, it comes together in minutes. It tastes like something you’d order from your favourite pub or takeaway. But it comes without the cost.

These are perfect for after-school snacks, Saturday night platters, or games nights. They also work as BBQ sides. You can even enjoy them as an easy lunch when you just want something fun and filling. And the best part? You can use fries, chips, or frozen wedges — they all work beautifully.

A Go-To Dinner in Our House

I have to say, this is one of my absolute favourite “get dinner on the table fast” recipes. On those nights when I’m running behind, or we’ve been busy out on the farm, loaded fries save the day. They’re simple, hearty, and honestly feel like such a treat without needing much effort.

We both love this style of dinner. It’s cosy and comforting. It hits the spot every single time. We often make a big platter, share it on the couch, and enjoy a no-fuss night together. It’s the meal that reminds you that good food doesn’t need to be complicated.

Plate of golden air-fried chips topped with melted cheese, diced ham, sour cream, and sliced spring onions, served warm and ready to enjoy.

Loaded Fries / Chips (Air Fryer Recipe)

Serves: 2–4
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time:15-20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 kilo frozen chips or fries (or wedges)
  • ½–1 cup grated cheese (tasty, Colby, or whatever you love)
  • ½ cup diced ham or cooked crispy bacon
  • Sour cream, for topping
  • 1–2 spring onions, thinly sliced
  • Optional but delicious: homemade BBQ sauce or sweet chilli sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook the Fries:
Preheat your air fryer if needed. Place the frozen chips in the basket. Cook at 200°C for 15-20 minutes. Give the basket a shake halfway through. Continue cooking until the chips are golden and crispy.
  2. Add the Toppings:
Tip the hot chips into a bowl and then line the air fryer. Place the chips back into the lined air fryer. Sprinkle over the ham or bacon, then add the grated cheese.
  3. Melt the Cheese:
Place the basket back into the air fryer for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese. (Keep an eye on it — it melts quickly!)
  4. Finish & Serve:
Dollop over sour cream, scatter sliced spring onion, and drizzle with your favourite sauce. I love adding my homemade BBQ sauce, but sweet chilli is also fantastic.
  5. Enjoy Immediately:
These are best served hot and melty, while the chips are still crisp.

Stacey’s Kitchen Tips

  • Wedges are incredible: Thicker cuts hold the toppings really well and feel extra hearty.
  • Add your leftovers: Pulled pork, shredded chicken, taco mince, or even leftover roast veggies all make a great topping.
  • Want them extra crispy? Spray a tiny bit of oil over the frozen chips before cooking.
  • Budget Tip: Use whatever cheese you have on hand — even a mix of ends from the fridge works perfectly.

Final Thoughts

Loaded chips are one of those recipes that look fancy but take almost no effort at all. Which is exactly the kind of food I love sharing with you. They’re fun, quick, and perfect for using up what’s already in your fridge.
