Prep Time:5 minutes
Cook Time:45 minutes
Resting Time:1 hour 15 minutes
Total Time:2 hours 5 minutes

Equipment

  • 1 dutch oven or a round oven dish that has a lid

Ingredients

  • cups warm water you may need a little more
  • 1 tsp honey the recipe works without sweetner
  • 3 tsp active yeast
  • 3 cups flour plain flour is fine to use
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  • In a bowl, add the warm water, honey and yeast and stir to combine. Leave for a couple of minutes to allow the yeast to activate.
  • Once the yeast has bubbled, add the remaining ingredients. Mix with a wooden spoon until combined. Cover the bowl and set aside for 1 hour.
  • Turn the oven to 230℃ and place the Dutch oven into the oven to warm up.
  • After an hour, shape the bread into a round loaf, using a floured surface. You want a nice round shape with a tight round top. Please watch the video to see the how-to method.
  • Place the loaf onto some baking paper and set into the bowl again to rise for another 15 minutes.
  • Transfer the loaf into the hot Dutch oven (leaving it on the baking paper) and place the lid on.
  • Bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the lid off and bake for a further 15 minutes.
  • Place the loaf onto a wire rack to cool thoroughly before cutting. Enjoy!

This is great bread and looks so impressive! For such a quick recipe, the result is fantastic. Oh the crunch of the crust is so gratifying! We’ll definitely have the whole load polished off by bedtime and I will be making it regularly from now on (and, like you, I plan to make most of our family’s bread at home this year, or as much of it as I possibly can).

Thank you so much for the recipe and video demo. Love from Bulgaria!
