I have been making these scones for as long as I can remember. I have made more than I can care to think about. Between family and two catering businesses, they have been a popular option.
This basic dry mix can be used in many different ways. Just use the required amount and add whatever fillings you like.
Some other popular filling options are dates, ham and cheese, cheese and onion or sundried tomato. You can also turn the mixture into scrolls by rolling out the mixture and filling with your favourite toppings. You then roll it back up into a long scroll and cut it into preferred sizes.

The Best Scone Recipe for DIY Pantry Mix
Ingredients
Dry
- 3 cups Flour
- 1/4 cup Milk Powder + 1 Tbsp Extra
- 1 tsp Salt
- 6 tsp Baking Powder
Wet
- 1 1/4 cups Water
- 75 g Butter Grated
Instructions
- Combine dry ingredients together. Store in an airtight container or jar.
- Tip dry ingredients into a bowl, add the grated butter and stir. Add water and use a knife to combine (Don't over-mix). Add milk if the mixture is too dry. On a floured, clean bench flatten the scone mixture to roughly 2cm thick. Cut into pieces or use a glass to make it into rounds. Brush the top of the scones with milk and place them on a lined tray. Bake at 200°c for 12 minutes or until lightly golden.
